Mapping folder as drive

I have for years on different pc's running Windows 7, 10 and 11 used this concept:

I have a folder D:\Tmp (or whatever). I can read and write like other folders. I map it as a drive with a drive letter (X in this example). I can now use X:\Tmp to read, write (and share in remote desktop sessions).

On a PC I received BSOD and had to rebuild disk with Lenovo image. I am up and running except for X:\Tmp.

D:\Tmp is working as always and the mapped version X:\Tmp looks good.

In D:\Tmp I create Testfile.txt. In X:\Tmp I can see and open the file - but I can't save edits or create new files. I get this error:

"Destination Folder Access Denied. You need permission to perform this action."

I have 2 other PC's with same concept, and they are working as expected. I have reviewed settings for sharing etc. and they seem to be identical all 3.

What to do???

    Hello,

When you modify the content of the share driver, there is an error and no access permission. I suggest you first refer to the position in the following figure to check whether the share driver has the same share permission and NTFS permission as other users who have successfully accessed it.

    Hello Zunhui

    Thanks for helping.

All settings on the 4 folders are correct and identical on PC1 and PC2 - but I found that settings on drive D prevented editing drive X.

I changed this: Drive D properties > Sharing > Advanced sharing > Permissions > (user group): Changed from Read to Full control.

    Everything is good now.
