Windows 11 24H2 Remote Desktop Connection Multimonitor Issue

Windows 11 24H2 seems to have a bug where when you edit your config file for Remote Desktop Connection and setting it to use multiple monitors but not all of them, they seem to HAVE to be touching within your display settings. For example if you use 2/3 monitors in the multimonitor setting, and they aren't touching in your display settings where you position the monitor, the remote desktop connection will simply use only 1 monitor. This has caused issues where in display settings I have to position my laptop underneath my two monitors so that they logically touch, which is a pain because it physically sits on the left of my desk.

I've done all sorts of testing using the mstsc /l command and trying different combinations of monitors, but it seems that the monitors must be touching in display settings otherwise this won't work.

The end goal is to use RDP on my two main monitors and have my laptop stay local.

It's a medium inconvenience to me but still an inconvenience. I'm wondering if Microsoft is aware of this bug and if there is a planned date or build version to fix this?

Thanks.

A major issue is that Windows changes the monitor settings after reboot (it seems to happen most often after updates are applied).

Sometimes the monitor settings are the same - and so you don't notice it - and other times it is different. So, if you reboot and it is not working - edit the RDP file again.

To begin with, the local monitors you use MUST share a common side.

To get it to work with whatever your current settings:

    1. Save your RDP settings with USE ALL MONITORS and then edit the RDP file using information from running "mstsc.exe /l" from the CMDLine.
    2. By default, RDP does NOT add the SelectedMonitors setting - so add it in and choose the monitors you want it to use (zero based numbering).
The order you specify determines the placement of the monitor(s) in the remote session).

    For example: selectedmonitors:s:2,0

Makes monitor 2 on the left in the RDP session.
