Edge disk cache problem

I am getting errors when the javascript file or the css file is serving from the cache. An example of such error is "Refused to execute script from 'https://.....js' because its MIME type ("text/html") is not executable, and strict MIME type checking is enabled".

If I clear or disable the cache and reload the page, the problem goes away. By the way, this happened after Windows Update, August 13, 2024 - KB5041585 was applied. Any ideas?

    Dear Alex202408!

    Welcome to the Microsoft Community!

Thank you for providing a detailed description of the problem. This is indeed a vexing problem, especially after a Windows update. Let's analyze and solve this problem step by step:

    1. Problem confirmation: The MIME type error you encounter usually occurs when the server returns an incorrect Content-Type header or there is a problem with the browser cache. Since clearing the cache can temporarily solve the problem, it is likely that there is a problem with the Edge browser's cache mechanism.
    2. Possible cause: Windows Update (KB5041585) may have affected the Edge browser's cache mechanism or network stack.
    3. Suggested solution steps:

Check network settings: Make sure your network settings have not been changed by Windows Update. Check proxy settings and DNS configuration.

Roll back the update: If the problem persists, consider uninstalling the KB5041585 update to see if it solves the problem.

    • Open "Settings" > "Update & Security" > "Windows Update"
    • Click "View update history" and select "Uninstall updates"
    • Find the recent large update and uninstall it

Check antivirus software: Some antivirus software may interfere with the browser's cache mechanism. Try disabling them temporarily to see if the problem is solved.

Disclaimer: Temporarily turn off antivirus protection. However, keep in mind that if you do so, your device may be vulnerable to threats. So please turn it on immediately once issue fixed.

Reporting a problem: If none of the above methods can solve the problem, it is recommended that you press Windows + F on your keyboard to open the Feedback Hub to report this problem to Microsoft. You can use the "Send Feedback" function in the upper right corner of the Edge browser or the Windows Feedback Hub.

Temporary solution: If the problem persists, you can consider using InPrivate browsing mode, or disabling cache in Edge's settings (although this may affect browsing performance).

I hope these suggestions will help you resolve the problem. If you still have questions after trying these methods, feel free to let me know and we can discuss other possible solutions further.

Thank you for your understanding and support!

    Best regards
