Scan Dialog Box in Windows 10

I recently upgraded to Windows 10 and can no longer find the same scan dialog box that I had in Windows 7.

I have an HP Envy 7640 and understand there are many different options now on what to use as an interface for scanning (i.e. HP Smart app, HP Scan & Capture app, Windows Scan app, MS Paint, Windows Fax and Scan, and Webscan).

I've looked into many of these options and settled on the HP Smart app, but I miss the old dialog box and all the options that were presented with that. Is there any program/interface for scanning that will display that dialog box in Windows 10?

Here is a sample of the dialog box I'm looking for:

Hi Corrine. I'm Greg, an installation specialist and 8 year Windows MVP, here to help you.

Rather than spending too much more time fiddling I'd simply Clean Reinstall the printer which always works, lasts longer and actually saves time:

    1. Power up the printer, if wired unplug it's USB cable from PC.
    2. Go to Settings>Apps>Apps and Features to find and Uninstall the printer software.
    3. Next copy and paste in Start search box: printui /s /t2 (Note that there is one space before each forward slash).
    4. Right click result to Run as Administrator.
    5. Open the Print Server properties, Remove the printer’s drivers for this printer and for any other printers you don't use presently. If you get a message about access denied or the printer being in use and you cannot find the driver or any installed program that would account for this, you may restart the computer in a diagnostic startup and then use the printui command to remove the driver package(s): https://www.isunshare.com/windows-10/enable-dia...

You must restart back to normal mode before you will be able to install the printer again.

    1. Now type Control Panel in Start Search, open CP, choose Icon View. In Control Panel open Devices and Printers, right click the printer to delete the Printer and any scanner or fax of the same name. Restart PC.
    2. Go to the printer model’s Support Downloads webpage to download and install the latest full software package. Now is also the time to check for any newer printer firmware to install which matters a lot.
    3. Extract Printer software, right click Setup file to Run as Administrator. Follow the setup screens closely as you install the software. For USB it should prompt when to plug in the printer.

If you have further problems reply back with results of each step.

What happens if you do the following:

    Press Windows key + R

    Type: control printers

    Hit Enter

    Right click your Printer/Scanner

    Click Start scan

You have several options on the screen which let you preview the document, choose a color format (color or black and white), adjust brightness, set the appropriate resolution and even choose the format you want to save it in: JPEG, PDF or PNG. If you are satisfied with the results after previewing the document, proceed to click scan.

Make your selections, Click Preview to ensure everything looks good then Click Scan.

Thank you for your quick reply Andre. I did look at that option (right-click on the printer, Start Scan), but that Scan dialog box does not have the PDF option which is what I need.

Based on exploring all the different scan options I could find for Windows 10, it doesn't look like I can access the same scan dialog box anymore (pictured in my question), which is a bummer. I do a lot of scanning for work and that dialog box (and interface for saving) were awesome for a number of different reasons.

I ended up going with the HP Smart app option for now; it's the least amount of mouse clicks to get the scanning done & saved, and offers PDF and JPG as save as types. Those are the two I would need.

    Thanks again,

    CorrineS

Thank you Greg for your quick response. I'm really just looking for a "Yes" or "No" on whether or not I can get the same Scan dialog box I had in Windows 7 (pictured in my question). If it's a "Yes", I'd like to know how.

Scanning is working fine on my computer and I spent several hours today on creating a working shortcut, getting scanning to work, installing Drivers, etc., so I'd rather not uninstall and reinstall unless that will produce the old dialog box (even then, I've spent too much time on this already!). Please let me know though if that's the case, and then I'll decide if I want to key those steps.

    Thanks again,

    CorrineS

The Microsoft Scan app also offers save as PDF too, so you might want to check that out.
