SharePoint Cross Firewall Access Zone

We have an issue with SharePoint 2019 alerts sending links with 'ntlm' URLs. Found an article that mentioned setting the Cross Firewall Access Zone, which I tested on a test environment and it worked.
Is this an acceptable method of fixing this issue? If it is, are there any security concerns with making the change?
Thank you!

    @Park, Dave

    Per my knowledge, configure cross-firewall access zone is the only to fix the alerts issue with Default Zone URL.

    I don’t think there are security concerns with making the change.
