System restore point

Last night I had activated a system restore point in hopes to restoring my old data but that was far from what had happened. I left it on over night to make sure it had enough time to run and it was on the same screen, I shut down the pc turned it back on and was brought to a blue screen given the options of continue, use another operating system, trouble shooting, or turn off your pc. I’ve tried all these options and none work they all bring me to the same outcome of involving me restarting my pc then after that all of them will say your pc did not restart properly. Same with all the options in advanced options, the only thing it will let me do is enter bios. I’ve tried resuming the system restore within the advanced options but that says it did not work either it’ll bring up a message with a red x. So pretty much I am unable to enter my computer because of this system restore and am completely at a loss of what I am supposed to do.

    Hi jake ramey1,

Thank you for posting here in Community.

That sounds incredibly frustrating, and I completely understand why you’d feel stuck right now. You took the right steps in trying to restore your old data, but unfortunately, something has gone wrong along the way. Don't worry—I’ll guide you through some troubleshooting methods that may help get your PC up and running again.

Troubleshooting Steps: 1. Boot into Safe Mode Since you're unable to access Windows normally, try booting into Safe Mode:

    • Restart your PC and force shut down (hold the power button for 10 seconds) three times in a row until you see "Preparing Automatic Repair."
    • Once the recovery screen appears, navigate to Advanced Options > Startup Settings and select Safe Mode with Networking.
    • If you're able to access Safe Mode, attempt to undo the System Restore by going to Control Panel > Recovery > Open System Restore.

    2. Use Startup Repair Since Windows is unable to restart properly, running Startup Repair may help:

    • Enter the Windows Recovery Environment (you should already be there).
    • Navigate to Advanced Options > Startup Repair and let Windows attempt to fix boot-related errors.

    3. Run System File Checker & Disk Check (if accessible via Command Prompt) If Startup Repair fails, use Command Prompt to scan for corrupted files:

    • Go to Advanced Options > Command Prompt.
    • Type: sfc /scannow and press Enter.
    • Then type: chkdsk C: /f /r /x and hit Enter.

    4. Perform a System Restore via Command Prompt If the previous methods don’t work, try restoring your system manually:

    • In Command Prompt, type: rstrui.exe and press Enter.
    • This will open System Restore, allowing you to select an earlier restore point.

    5. Reset Windows (as a last resort) If nothing works and you need access to your PC urgently:

    • In Advanced Options, select Reset This PC.
    • Choose Keep My Files to retain personal files while reinstalling Windows.

I know this situation is stressful, but don’t worry—you still have options to recover your system. If none of these solutions work, you may need to create a Windows installation media on another device and perform a fresh installation. Let me know how these steps work for you, and I’ll assist further if needed!

    Best regards,

    Bo
