I did those steps before troubleshooting. During troubleshooting, I re-enabled the services as described in the troubleshooting procedures. Synchronization did not start even after all services were re-enabled. Therefore, I went to Step 8 of the troubleshooting procedures that resulted in asking about the checkboxes. Step 8 says "Select Startup and then select the upper half of the check boxes in the Startup Item list." Is this different than Step 5 of the troubleshooting procedures?
Host Process for Setting Synchronization
I noticed this morning for the first time that Host Process for Setting Synchronization is running. It's at the top of Disk and CPU in Task Manager and has been for a couple of hours. Here's the thing - I don't have any other devices; it's just me and my desktop. So why is it running? I want to turn it off, but want to make sure I'm not going to affect something else.

2021-12-09T15:13:21+00:00 Synchronization stopped yesterday after about 6 hours; however, it started up again this morning, so I started the clean boot troubleshooting.
On Step 8 of the troubleshooting instructions, I don't see checkboxes in the Startup tab of either System Configuration or Task Manager. Am I supposed to Enable the upper half of the startup item list? (Note: Some of these items, like Cortana and Skype, were already disabled when I started the troubleshooting process.)

2021-12-08T19:32:17+00:00 Simply close task manger and reopen it with administrator rights. If it goes away then safely close task manger. If not tell it to "End Task" and if there is a popup that says something like "Ending this task could cause your PC to become unstable." tick the checkbox that says "End Task and shutdown." Then click yes/okay or whatever thing like that. If it popups with "Access Denied" then it means that some other device could be connected to your PC and you're just not seeing/don't recognize it.
