Cannot get notifications for shared mailbox in Outlook (classic)

Hello,

I've made rules in outlook classic (not the new one) to give notifications when email in a shared folder is received.

The rule does nothing - sending emails to the shared box does not fire the notification, send a desktop alert, or play the sound as programmed. Rules seemingly just don't run on the shared box.

Is there any reason for this? I find other dead threads with similar answers all saying "simply make the rule" and that doesn't work. Other help options tell me to do things that don't exist in the rule menu. Is there no quick answer to this?

    Dear Jeff O-IT,

Good day! Thank you for posting to Microsoft Community.,

In order to understand your query and provide possible solution, May I please double confirm if you have concern with shared mailbox or shared inbox folder that shared from a user?

If you are using a shared mailbox, since outlook consider the shared mailbox as additional mailbox, it doesn't seem feasible to set rules and set desktop alerts to receive notifications in the Outlook app. However, as a workaround, you may try to add the shared mailbox as a second mailbox in the Outlook and check if it allows you to add the rule and set a desktop alert. To do this, follow the steps below:

    • Go to File -->Add Account -->Enter the shared mailbox account in box -->Click on Connect. Image
    • Outlook prompt will ask you to enter password for the shared mailbox, at this time, since the shared mailbox doesn't have password, click on "sign in with another account". Image
    • Then, on the next box Enter your primary email account (the one you are using to manage the shared mailbox) --> click on Next -->Enter your Password -->sign in -->If you have two factor authentication, then authenticate you account.
    • Finally, click Done and restart your Outlook.

Once you have completed the steps above, your shared mailbox account will be added as a second account and allows you to receive notifications when the new emails arrive in the inbox or set rules with desktop alert action in the Outlook app. Therefore, you may try the above and check if there is any difference.

I look forward to your update. Please feel free to let me know how it goes or if I've got you wrong. If you still have any concerns, please let me know so I can provide more suggestions.

Thank you for your precious time. Have a nice day.

    Sincerely,
