365 Word Reference tab

I have just purchased 365 for a MBA Program to I am up-to-date.  According to my professor, the latest writing style for "Chicago" is 17th edition.

Why is 365 not up-to-date because it is still showing 16th edition?  This leads me to believe that ALL the others are not up-to-date also, i.e., APA, MLA etc.

You are right, MS is VERY slow, several years, to update bibliography styles. Updating bibliography styles is the bottom of the priority pile for MS.  They MAY get around to making these updates in 2 or 3 years.  There is no money, and no preasure to encourage MS to spend money on making these updates.

    .

Ask your professor how he would recommend automating the bibliography.  I know, they are typically snobs who don't care how you do it, as long as you do what they want. But sometimes they provide a useful answer.  Like this college did (wrong style, but just an example):

    APA   7 @0How can I download the Word APA 7 template?https://bowvalleycollege.libanswers.com/faq/202831

    .

You can create a "feedback" at MS to let them know you need the update. Get your professor to get all of his students to submit the same sort of feedback, or to vote for yours.  1 vote work, but maybe if you can get thousands or 10's of thousands they will act.

    .

As aymericb51 said, most likely option is 3rd party tools. I can give you some names I've collected, without specifically recommending any of them (same reason, I don't use them). Your other option is to find a template that someone has created and is willing to share (like example above).

    .

Another option is to contact the publisher of the Chicago style and find out if they have a template, free or paid, that you can get.

BibMe™ is an automated citation creator and bibliography generator. It can save you loads of time building and formatting your references, time that is understandably valuable and would be better served working on your paper. Don't want to spend countless hours typing in information about your educational references, or looking through the style manuals' rules? No problem! BibMe can find your source from external databases, fill in the information, and then accurately format the citation. Or, if you have the source in front of you, you can enter your entries in manually. Students can also learn how to properly cite their references by consulting the style manual guidelines (and plenty of example citations) on the "Citation Guide" page.

Word’s Citation and Bibliography support is enough for some people, but not for everyone so there are tools available to go beyond what Microsoft provides.

JabRef is the commonly used, multi-platform tool for maintaining citations and bibliographies. It goes way past the primitive Microsoft Word features, in particular a web lookup component to grab all the details of a source.  In Word you have to manually look them up and paste into each field.****There are differences between BibTeX and the Word sources which are detailed at http://help.jabref.org/en/MsOfficeBibFieldMapping

    https://www.calvin.edu/library/knightcite/?op=newCitation

    MLA 8^th^ (2016), APA 6^th^ (2010), & Chicago 17^th^ (2017) and Turabian 9^th^ styles only.

KnightCite is an online citation generator service provided by the Hekman Library of Calvin College. This service simplifies the often tedious task of compiling an accurate bibliography in the appropriate style by formatting the given data on a source into a reliable citation, eliminating the need to memorize minute details of style for multiple kinds of sources. The service is provided free of charge by the college, and is available to members both within and outside of the Calvin community. There is no advertising on the site, and those who choose to register on the site will have the option of saving all of their citations and even multiple bibliographies to their account.

While there are currently several other citation services available on the web (some for free and others available at a cost), KnightCite was created in 2004 when comparably free and powerful enough tools were not available. The creators of KnightCite chose to develop a program for Calvin that could ensure both relevant and highly accurate results.

KnightCite is available to anyone and does not require an account. However, registration is free and offers additional features such as the ability to save citations and export them to a Word document.

    Hello !

You're right : it seems like Microsoft still hasn't updated Chicago writing style to its latest version. Unfortunately, there's no way to update or change it quickly :(

You're better off with a third party software or addon. However, I am not able to recommend you a good one, because I never used this feature of Word.

    Sorry for the inconvenience :(
