Visual Basic Editor 'Out Of Memory'

I am having an issue with my VBA in Excel on my Mac!

Every file I open whether its a new or old one has the same error message when I try to open the VBA Editor.

When I click on the VBA Button on my 'Developer Tap', I get an error 'Visual Basic Editor, Out Of Memory'.

I have freed up space on my Mac so thats not an issue, I've reinstalled Office 365 twice and this doesn't help either.

Any help please would be greatly appreciated

Hi Aaron,

Sorry for the inconvenience it may have caused.

There are lots of possible causes of this particular error, you may try the following suggestions to solve it:

  1. Update Excel to the latest version. With Office updated, some previous issues would get resolved.
  2. Start your Mac in Safe Mode and open Excel from there to isolate issues, then check if the issue persists. Because when starting your operating system by using a normal startup, several applications and services start automatically and then run in the background. These programs include basic system processes, antivirus software, system utilities, and other software. These applications and services can sometimes cause interference when you run Office for Mac. You can refer to this article for more details.
  3. Create a new local user profile.

Some issues might be caused by the corrupt user profile. You can refer to Set up users, guests, and groups on Mac for detailed steps.

  1. The problem may also be related to the settings after installing Excel for Mac, remove the files below to clear relevant caches.
  1. Close Excel, open Finder.
  2. Press Command + Shift + G, input “~/Library/Containers”, remove com.microsoft.Excel to desktop.
  3. Press Command + Shift + G, input “~/Library/Preferences”, remove com.microsoft.office.plist to desktop.
  4. Open Excel and check the result.

If the issue persists, we need you to provide some more information to further check it:

  1. Please provide the Office version and macOS version.

Office version: After opening Excel client, click Excel > About Microsoft Excel on the menu.

macOS version: Click Apple icon > About this Mac on the menu.

  1. When did the error start occurring? Have you made certain settings for Excel before?

Best regards,

Madoc

I had tried all the steps apart from #4 and once I cleared the relevant caches you recommended it now works once again!

    Thanks again for your help
