I am trying to map data for Nebraska by counties using a table with columns identifying FIPS, County name, State name, data (to be mapped). The first 3 columns should be plenty to identify the correct geography for mapping, but Garden County, Nebraska (FIPS 31069) is not recognized by the mapping software in Excel - i.e. the "Powered by Bing © GeoNames, TomTom."  See attached image for proof. The gray/blank area is Garden County which shows up as "No data" in the Excel map despite having data in under 31069 | Garden County | Nebraska in the selected source table.

Hi Tom,

Appreciate your sharing with the file.

I have checked that and did some tests on my side, kindly check the screenshots below. With just three items, we can easily find that in other types of charts, they are all good to show all data which indicates that the data is good to be selected into the data resource.

As the same behavior happens on several test PCs with various versions, the issue may be related with the connection between Maps feature and Bing. I double confirmed this because there has a yellow warning bar on my test workbook(you may not get this with the large data and the percentage is nearly 100%(just my guess)).

When there have 3 items, it said plotted 67% of the locations, while there have 7 items, the percentage is changed to 86%(should be 85.71% exactly). Hence, it seems like it is not only a bug but also a known issue from the Bing side.

In this situation, I may sorry to convey that it is a feature limitation in Excel for now and the only way I could suggest you is to send the feedback in Excel so that the related product team could further investigate it and connect with the Bing side to have a update on this specific county maybe.

Appreciate your understanding and effort on this thread, hope above test results could offer a little bit help for you.

Have a nice day and feel free to post in our forum if you need any other support someday.

Best Regards,

Mia

Thanks for helping to review this issue. I'll bring it to the Excel team and hopefully they can get this fixed with Bing.

    Hi Dana,

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

Based on your description, it seems like there has one data with 'Nebraska' in the table failed to work when you try to map the data via Excel>Insert>Maps>Filled Map. For the reference: Create a Map chart in Excel - Office Support (microsoft.com)

We are happy to do some tests to better understand the scenario if you share more details or you can even share me the issue workbook(with no sensitive information) in this Private Message Link: Private Messages - Microsoft Community. We will check if the same behavior will happen on our test side.

Also, you can try to create a new workbook if it is convenient and see if the same issue will happen. You can just simply add limited data resources including Nebraska and do a double check as it helps up to troubleshoot if the issue is caused by the connection between data and mapping feature in Excel.

Besides, to better investigate the issue, please share us the version of Excel and more details to encounter the issue. Open Excel > Click File > Click Account and take a full screenshot.

Do feel free to post back if you have time to check these and I will see what I can do for you at my best.

    Best Regards,

    Mia
