Microsoft Authenticator Restore from Backup

Hi, I have a problem with the Microsoft authenticator app and my Microsoft accounts.

Essentially, whenever I restore my backup to a new device a “security key” gets added to my verification options on the Microsoft accounts that got restored.

The issue here is, I don’t own a security key. This happens whenever I restore my accounts from backup and only then. I can delete the key from the account and nothing changes but if I restore from backup again it gets added again

Any advice would be appreciated, thanks.

My problem isn’t that I want to remove it, I can easily remove it. It shouldn’t be there to begin with as I don’t own a security key

    Hi, JamieG6.

Do you want to disable security key permanently?

If yes, follow the steps below.

    1. Disable the setup in two steps and then enable movements in your Microsoft account.

    1. After activating it again choose another method for the 2-step verification.

→ Go to the My Profile page in My Account and sign in if you haven't already.

→ Select Security Information , select Add method, then select another method from the < Add a method> list.
