Paginate Columns

Hello,

I have my work horizontal and the text is divided into two columns.

I would like to paginate each column. However, the pagination occurs by page and not by column.

I cannot change the format of my work to a book.

And I have also tried some possibilities like this: https://www.datanumen.com/blogs/how-to-add-number-to-each-column-in-a-multi-column-word-document/. However, I cannot insert the field.

Do I need to do it manually?

Thank you.

The gray background in your screen shot appears to be paragraph shading applied to the footer paragraph. To remove it, activate the header/footer, select the text paragraph and display the Borders and Shading dialog box by clicking the border button in the Paragraph group on the Home tab. Go to the Shading tab and make sure to choose the "No Color" option.

You can't create true page numbers for columns, but you can fake it by creating calculated numbering.

You'll need two nested fields: { = 2*{ PAGE } - 1 } for the odd numbers and { = 2*{ PAGE } } for the even numbers. To insert each pair of field delimiters, { }, press Ctrl+F9 (or Ctrl+Fn+F9 on some keyboards). You can't just type the braces directly from the keyboard.

Position the fields in the header (or footer) by inserting a two column table or by using tab stops (I have done the latter in the screen shot below).

Here is a screen shot of the field codes:

Instead of using columns, why not just use pages? If you use the "2 pages per sheet" option on the Margins tab of Page Setup, you can get two logical pages on one physical sheet, which should do just what you want. For more, see http://wordfaqs.ssbarnhill.com/2PagesPerSheet.htm

You can update the inserted fields by pressing F9 (or Fn+F9 depending on your keyboard).

To show/hide field codes, use Alt+F9 (of Alt+Fn+F9).

    Hello Stefan,

Thank you, but I am not being able to insert the fields. I click Ctrl+F9 (or Ctrl+Fn+F9), paste the code and it stays like the code. There is nothing saying update field or anything (like in the link I provided in the question).
