Suddenly, when I open any of my word documents they are a transparent gray color. This makes it hard to read and write and I am unsure why this has started.

Thanks for the follow-up. If you want to keep using the "Black" theme in Word/Office, try selecting the "Disable dark mode" option at File > Options > General (the option is only available after you have selected the "Black" theme).

Thank you for responding! While trying to find the answer to your questions, I stumbled upon account settings in Word. My computer is in Dark mode but I remember Word being in Dark mode except for the document which was white. Then it became transparent/gray. However, I changed my office theme to colorful/white and it is showing me a more normal word with a white document (but without dark mode). I have never touched office theme before so I don't know how the document could have been affected, but the colorful theme is essentially fine.
This is what the transparent/ gray problem looked like.

Which version of Word/Office are you running? And which operating system are you using?
