Macros only work in the desktop version of Excel for Windows and Mac, not in the web (online) version. So there is no way to run macros in Excel for the Web.
Accessing Macro based Excel on MS 365 Web.
Currently, our Windows OS is running with MS 365 Web and there is no MicroSoft Desktop version.
All our Excel are Marco based and please let me know how the MS 365 Web can access the Macros based Excel without the MS Desktop version ?

2025-05-01T19:30:58+00:00 Thank you HansV.
Currently, our Windows 2019 Server is hosted with the below products :
- MS-Office 2016 and its out of support in October 2025
- As Windows server is configured with Microsoft 365 and subscription is [ Microsoft 365 E5 ]
All the Macro Excel are accessing with MS-Office 2016 and we are exploring the option to leverage the MS365 which are currently based on Web -Cloud version and the Macro Based Excel are not supporting.
- Please confirm, with the current subscription MS365 [ Microsoft 365 E5 ] can we install both Web based and Desktop based App
- What is best option to get migrated from MS-Office 2016 to support Excel with Macro enable
- Preferably can we migrate from MS-Office 2016 to MS365 to support Excel with Macro enable
Below is the current subscription details
