Why does Font keep changing when editing text?

I'm using Win10. Office 2013 (vers. 15.0.5603.100). Both are fully updated.

I'm having a problem where text will change from the default text (for example, Times New Roman) to something else (like, Courier New).

This happens when I am editing text, for example, deleting to combine two or more separate text statements.

It seems to mostly occur with text that has been copied and pasted from another Word document. Except, . . . : Both documents are saved with the same template.

So, I go: HOME > STYLES > MANAGE STYLES.

I choose the "Normal" template -- which I always use for every document.

I set everything to the way I want it in regards to Font.

I select "New documents based on this template."

I click OK.

Nothing happens. The problem comes back eventually.

In the case of conflicting styles when copying and pasting, Options is set to respect the setting of the document to which text is being pasted -- but, it doesn't.

See below.

Any thoughts?

I've seen this sometimes happen, and I solve it by setting my defaults to be the same as the Normal style. There are several ways to do this, but I found that this way usually works for me.

Go to the Home tab and click on the tiny launcher arrow in the Styles group. This will open up the Styles pane. At the bottom of the pane, click on the Manage Styles button, and click on the Set Defaults tab. Make the settings the same as your Normal style.

As WordWizzard says, the issue is most likely caused by an incorrect default font in Word.

Here is another method to change the default font: In the Font dialog box (Ctrl+D), choose the font and size you want and then click the Set as Default button. Choose to make the change for the current document only (unless you want to modify your template as well).

    Hello,

Thank you for posting this issue on community forum.

Looks like Word isn’t keeping your font settings locked in. Since you’ve already set the Normal template and adjusted paste options.

Try this: open Word, go to File > Options > Advanced, and under “Cut, Copy, and Paste,” set “Keep Source Formatting” for everything.

Then, check if styles are being forced from the template by going to File > Options > Save and disabling “Prompt to Update Style.”

If that doesn’t work, reset the Normal template by renaming Normal.dotm in %AppData%\Microsoft\Templates, then restart Word.

Let me know if this works for you. Sincerely,Walter White | Microsoft Community Moderator
