Is this feature still in preview?

How can i add agent in logic app workflow.

I watched a video on Microsoft Developer Channel (Video link: https://youtu.be/4PCotbZjXPc?si=8U5W0brtTIV5HC4e). The video is posted 3 months ago and i can't find the agent action option in the workflow.

    Satyabrata hi,

great question. yes, this feature is absolutely still in preview as of today. preview features can sometimes be a bit tricky to find because the ui might change or the rollout to different regions can take time.

make sure u are in a region that supports this preview. sometimes features are not available in all data centers right away. north central us and west europe are usually good bets for early access. check your logic app's location in the overview tab.

u need to make sure u are using the right kind of logic app. this ai agent feature only works with the standard logic apps plan, not the consumption plan. so when u create your logic app, u have to choose standard. this is the most common reason people cannot find the action.

once u are in a standard logic app in a supported region, open the workflow designer. in the operation chooser, try searching for 'agent'. the action should be named something like 'initialize an agent' or just 'agent'. if it is not there, your environment might not have the latest bits yet.

also, check this. u need to have an azure openai resource already deployed with a model like gpt-4. the agent will need that connection to work.

if u have done all this and still cannot see it, it might be a permissions thing. make sure your user account has the right roles, like contributor, on both the logic app and the openai resource. worth looking into.

now, for a general tip that might help in other tools too. when a new feature is in preview, the ui can change fast. that video is three months old, which is an eternity in preview time. the action might have been renamed or moved to a different category. always check the date on the documentation or videos u are watching. the official docs i linked are your best bet for the most current steps.

aha, and one more thing. sometimes just refreshing the browser cache or trying a different browser can make new controls appear. it is a simple trick but it works.

do not get discouraged. this is a really powerful feature and once u find it, u will have a lot of fun building with it. if u are still stuck after checking all this, definitely post on the official microsoft q&a forum. the product team is very active there and can help with preview access issues.

good luck. let me know if u find it.

    Best regards,

    Alex

    Hello Satyabrata,

Thank you for reaching out on the Microsoft Q&A.

Yes, the feature to create workflows with AI agents and models in Azure Logic Apps is still in preview. That’s why you may not see it in every subscription or region yet. It currently applies to Standard Logic Apps, not Consumption-based ones.

To add an agent to your workflow, you’ll need to create a Standard Logic App and then set up a new workflow of type Agent. The steps are:

In the Azure portal, go to your Logic App (Standard) resource.

From the left menu, select Workflows.

On the toolbar, choose Add > Add.

In the Create Workflow pane, give your workflow a name and select Agent as the type, then click Create.

The designer will open with a Default Agent. You’ll need to configure this agent (triggers, instructions, model connection, etc.) before saving the workflow.

You can find the detailed walkthrough here: Create AI agent workflows in Azure Logic Apps (Preview).

It seems inconsistent that the default agent action is available only in the Standard workflow plan, not in the Consumption plan. To integrate Logic Apps with agents in AI Foundry, we need the Consumption plan, but to create an agent directly inside a Logic App workflow, the Standard workflow plan is required.

The issue is that the Standard plan is significantly more expensive, while the Consumption plan is more affordable but lacks key features. Agents in AI Foundry don’t have built-in triggers like Copilot Studio agents or Logic App workflows. Logic Apps do provide the agent action, but again not in the Consumption plan. It would be much more practical if the agent action were supported in the Consumption plan as well.
