How do I update server settings on a new account on outlook? Port setting is incorrect

New Outlook for Windows - Update server settings

View -> View Settings -> Accounts
Select the [Mange] button next to the account
Scroll down and click the [Repair] button

The Port number can vary with Email service provider, type of the account aka POP or IMAP etc.

May I know the name of the email service provider so I can help you?

If it is an Outlook.com account,

IMAP (without encryption) → Port 143 • IMAP over SSL/TLS (recommended) → Port 993

• 143 → Used with STARTTLS (connection starts unencrypted, then upgrades to TLS). • 993 → Used with SSL/TLS directly (secure connection from the start).

To fix incorrect port settings for a new email account in Outlook for Windows, adjust the server settings for that account and set the correct port numbers and encryption.

1. Open Outlook and go to File.
2. Under Account Information, choose the account with the incorrect settings from the dropdown.
3. Select Account Settings > Account Settings.
4. Select the account and choose Change (or Server Settings if shown directly).
5. Choose Server Settings (or More Settings > Advanced depending on the view).
6. Under Incoming mail and Outgoing mail, update:
   • Server Port Numbers (Incoming server and Outgoing server/SMTP)
   • Encryption type (for example, SSL/TLS if required)
7. If using Microsoft 365/Exchange Online with POP/IMAP/SMTP, typical ports are:
   • POP3: 995, server: outlook.office365.com
   • IMAP4: 993, server: outlook.office365.com
   • SMTP: 587, server: smtp.office365.com
8. Select Next > Done, or use Test Account Settings if available to confirm there are green check marks and no errors.

If using another email provider (not Microsoft 365/Exchange Online), obtain the correct port and encryption values from that provider and enter them in the same Server Settings / Advanced tab fields.
