Hyperlinking within a document

I am having an issue when I cross-reference or cross-link text in my document in Microsoft WORD. I am using Office 365. I've defined the hyperlink style as showing as blue text, however, no matter what I do the font remains black. I've tried reinstalling the Normal.dotm template, changing the font color using the font color under the Home ribbon, writing a macro to see if I can over-ride whatever glitch there is. Nothing works. Am I missing something? Is there a glitch somewhere?

I know sometime in my distant past (last year I think) it did allow me to see it as blue text.

When I hyperlink to, say, a website it does show as blue. The glitch is when I am trying to hyperlink within the document itself.

Any help is appreciated.

The hyperlink style is never applied to cross-references, even when they are hyperlinked. This is also true of TOCs. Ironically, if you unlink a TOC, the linked entries will no longer work but will be formatted as hyperlinks (that is, the Hyperlink style, which is applied but suppressed, will be expressed).
