SQL Server Developer edition use case

For SQL Server 2019, and specifically the developer edition (consisting of using a free license), I want to make sure that I can use the software for the use case I have in mind: I work day to day as a SQL query writer / developer, and would like to share my knowledge in the format of tutorials, which will likely be published to a YouTube channel. In my research, it looks like this would be an acceptable use case of the developer license, but again I want to dot my i's and cross my t's by asking here.

Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the answers provided! I called Microsoft this morning and the representative I spoke with directed me to ask on this forum. I'll reach out to the number supplied here to ask.

    Hi @Scholldier ,

This is not the right place to ask such question. This is a community forum where mostly members from the community help others on their free time - most of the supporters and Moderators contribute their time to help others in technical questions.

If you are in north America you need call 1-800-426-9400, Monday through Friday, 6:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. (Pacific Time) to speak directly to a Microsoft licensing specialist, and you can get more detail information from them. Worldwide customers can use the Guide to Worldwide Microsoft Licensing Sites to find contact information in their regional locations:

Personally, I assume that recording video and publish in public can be considered as production since the recording can be used to get paid for example. It's the same as using developer version for teaching courses.

This is a technical forum, and you will not get any authoritative answers here about legal matters.

My gut feeling is that you are good, but my knowledge is not any better than yours. You would need to talk to a Microsoft licensing specialist to get an answer you can trust.

But depending on what features you are planning to work with, you could let it suffice with Express Edition, which also is free, but which is licensed for Production. On the other hand, there is an upper limit of the database size of 10 GB, and it cannot use more than 1GB of RAM. Also, it does not support all features, but about everything that is exposed in the programmability area is available.
