Need solution for file locks when using DFS

We have two locations in two different cities with a 300 Mbps pipe between them. We recently setup DFS and ran into problems when users were modifying the same file on both ends on different servers. Either the files were overwritten or one side couldn't save. I understand why that is now, but the Autocad files are too large to only open on one server at a single location. We're trying to find a technology for locking files on DFS shares. We have looked at PeerGFS, but it's cost prohibitive for us.

Can anyone suggest another option for us to look at? Incidentally, management does NOT want a cloud-based solution such as SharePoint, because they just spent $20K+ on server upgrades. Besides, the Autocad files are so large, that it will likely take an unacceptable time to open the files from the cloud. This is for a civil engineering firm that has many technical drawings. Every minute the engineers have to wait for a drawing to open is nonbillable time, plus it makes everyone frustrated.

Thanks

    Hello @al_baker2 ,

    Thank you for posting here.

Based on my understanding, I do not know such a technology for locking files on DFS servers.

Maybe we can try the paied technology we mentioned.

Or after city one edits the file, we can save it locally and transfer the file to city two, and if city two edits the file, we can save it locally and transfer the file to city one. Keep only one side can edit the file and share the latest file to each other.

Thank you for your understanding and supports.

    Best Regards,
    Daisy Zhou
