Ive found the same here, its acting like a VIRUS and is using the CPU enough to have the fan start up, whenever the PC is idle and the screen is off. As soon as it is woken up, the process stops. WinBlows 11's own activity report shows it using HOURS of CPU even though the app is completely disconnected and disabled, and set to NOT run on startup. Ive reported it to Feedback Hub, but nothing has been done, and Im sick of hearing my PCs CPU and the Phone's battery being shredded whenever Im not using it. Ive just installed AirDroid...

. There's a few ways without getting all CLI happy. . . . . Settings, Apps, click on Phone Link and click Uninstall. Another way is Control Panel, Under Programs click Uninstall a Program, then right click on the one you want to remove.

Removing this stupid app was much better than spending 15 minutes fighting to make it work. I think Microsoft has gone senile with the stupidity in which most if not all their stuff ..............works or rather doesn't work.

Link your phone? Ya tried that, QR Code? Ya tried that, it gave me some weird, cryptic line of gobbledygook. Really??? Try connecting existing connection. SURPRISE there was a problem. They're serious right? Is this Candid Camera or something?

I followed the instructions above and the app no longer starts, but it still appears in the Apps&Features list.
The uninstall button is greyed out. The Phone Link item still appears in Task Manager but is marked "Disabled"

Perhaps all you can do is turn it off?

Making uninstall difficult is likely a matter of Microsoft wanting users to retain ALL of its apps for any potential revenue they may gain from them.

Alternatively and additionally, it may be ineptitude. I have a SharePoint online list that no longer provides the 'Title' field in a new item and they couldn't figure it out. It's all web based, nothing I could do to break that other than not having added anything new to the list since early 2022. Maybe it got rusty? Maybe they have no idea how to fix anything because the only help I received either had nothing to do with the question or it was, "Oh well, what are ya goin to do" Create a new list.

Yes, create a new list then rewire all my flows and apps because of their ineptitude.

No excuses about cache etc. It's 2023, these issues should be a thing of the past!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Microsoft Store apps usually have an uninstall link in the menu, (right click for context menu), and I think it's appalling that the Phone Link app doesn't. I guess they want to make it an integral part of the operating system. Xbox Game Bar is another. As if I would ever want to use that! :(

If this useless app won't uninstall from the Admin account, you might have to uninstall from the profile you installed it with. Use: Get-AppxPackage Microsoft.YourPhone | Remove-AppxPackage Annoying. I expected Microsoft to have something more functional before release.

This is why I NEVER will install or sign in a microsoft app again. Even on my phone with live.com. They chronically ask me to sign in and I refuse. I cannot trust microsoft to allow me to change my mind. Once they have you they are like Hotel California-YOU CAN NEVER LEAVE!!!

The above fix worked. However, needing to go to this great a length including all the searching to find this answer should be illegal. Just like places like amazon and Facebook are now required by law to make closing an account as easy as opening it.

I was sad to need an Android phone, but no one would provision my WP10 Lumia 950XL anymore and the Apple Universe seemed so expensive. (yes, WP10 in 2023 as the daily driver...)

The Phone Link was dangled as a ZMAX11/PC tool, so I took it. It worked. But, Google crawled farther up into my intestines with a crumby device (and un-uninstallable software, I was to find.)

I opted for a resale iPhone 12 Pro Max- tons of security and a fair comparable to the 950XL and there are actually a lot of free iPhone apps for the stuff I needed without taking part of my soul in payment.

I will miss having my favorite 18000 songs on my phone SDcard, but hey, Android wrecked about 400 filenames that I am still manually fixing. Now I am extracting the final vestige of that Android misadventure.

The WP10 stays in the drawer, just in case some LTE carrier will welcome my 950XL.

I guess my going in and removing all their spying software and bloating from widows was not enough now I have to shut off my phone to use my computer at work. It is not just an MS Store app. It is a "windows component" or "windows feature". A normal user can simply disable it by going to Settings and looking for "Enable or disable Phone Link" and turning it off. To really uninstall it, you have to use Powershell.

IMHO it is just bloatware and I prefer to uninstall it and free up a few kb on my hard drive.

1) Open PowerShell as Administrator.

Go to Start Menu > PowerShell > Right click > Run as administrator

2) Run the following command in PowerShell and press enter:

Get-AppxPackage Microsoft.YourPhone -AllUsers | Remove-AppxPackage

Phone link will be removed from your device.

Thanks. Worked perfectly. To those following the instructions, enter the PowerShell command EXACTLY as listed. Do not replace 'YourPhone' with the name of your phone.

P.S. to bring up powershell, enter 'powershell' into your windows search on your taskbar. You will see ' Windows PowerShell'. Right-Click Windows power shell and then select 'Run as administrator'. If your login profile of you computer is NOT an Administrator account, it should prompt you for an administrator account and password.

This was my experience on Windows 10.

Is the process reversible and can the app be reinstalled from microsoft store?

Also i had it pinned to taskbar but after using the powershell to remove the app the taskbar still remained there. Its not showing anything but if i right-click on the empty space on my taskbar it shows the options for the phone link app. Is there a way to fix that.

I still have the Phone Link tile and can still run it yet when I attempt to remove it fails with: Remove-AppxPackage : Deployment failed with HRESULT: 0x80073CF1, Package was not found. Windows cannot remove Microsoft.YourPhone_1.23062.153.0_x64__8wekyb3d8bbwe because the current user does not have that package installed. Use Get-AppxPackage to see the list of packages installed. Thanks Dillon for the powershell fix, it resolved my issue, all the names synced once I removed and reinstalled phone link again. MS should allow removal and they really need to fix this issue

That was a very easy fix. I've been having problems with the app, and the MS Troubleshooting steps that I've followed recommend reinstalling the app. But, I couldn't find Phone Link listed in the apps in my Control Panel nor anywhere else that traditionally I've uninstalled apps. I know nothing about Powershell right now; I'm an old "DOS" guy from the everything-from-the-dot-prompt era, years before Windows came out! But your instructions made it easy. I've got to learn more about Powershell. Thank you!

ain't no way I'd ever have figured this out. I had high hopes for Phone Link but all it does is wreck my iphone text chains, delete messages, and not resolve my contacts (shows phone #) - which makes normal usage of my iphone pretty bad. no thanks!

Thank you so much. Windows has serious boundary issues. All these companies do. The way these windows link apps refuse to close and just keep self reviving and reconnecting without permission now matter what settings you throw at them feels extremely slimy.

I find the simple solution without uninstalling the pone link app. Unlink your phone from the app :Step 1. Open the Phone Link app on your Windows PC

Access the My Devices list. ...

Click or tap the More options button of the phone to unlink. ...

Choose Remove to unsync a phone from Windows.

This kind of works. In my computer, Phone Link launches itself from time to time and asks me to add my phone again. Your solution successfully unlinks the phone, but removing it will free up space, remove registry associations, and other stuff that is unneeded in you computer. Why diasble it when you can get rid of the bloatware in 2 clicks.
You can also just go to Settings and search for "Enable or disabel Phone Link" and move the switch to Off :)

My 2 cents.

Run the following command in PowerShell and press enter:

Get-AppxPackage -AllUsers -Name "Microsoft.YourPhone" | Remove-AppxPackage -AllUsers

3.Phone link application will be removed from your device for all users.
