Hello all, looking to see about some help and guidance on how to execute this task.

I have a domain that is built out and has been online for about 2 years. we can call it xyz.com I have a primary DC and 2 secondary, DNS, a number of other servers running and then your typical users, computers, etc.

I recently received some new equipment for my network and due to the nature of how it was received I had to go ahead and build out my devices for the network but I was never able to connect to the network. They system built out a primary DC for xyz.com, a number of other servers, DNS, AD, service accounts, etc. It hasn't been online yet and has never touched the other network.

I am needing to put my new equipment online and merge it into my existing domain. All systems are built in the same IP space and use the same xyz.com domain. I'm sure it can't be as easy as just plug in the new equipment, configure a sites and services to ensure replication and thats it right? It is the same exact domain name but once the new equipment is placed online there would be two primary DC so how would i go about making sure there isn't a conflict between the DCs and that the new devices and accounts successfully replicate into the existing domain? Any help is appreciated

You can't do it like that. What you can try is demoting the new one, connect to existing network, join existing domain and promo it. But make sure health is 100% (dcdiag, repadmin tools) before adding domain controllers to existing.

    Hi,

As you have both the domains with the same name you will not be able to merge or migrate the users, devices etc. The only options is as DSPatrick mentioned is to demote one domain and connect existing devices to new.

However there is also another way you will need to rename the new domain to EFG.com, create a trust relationship between the domain and migrate the objects using ADMT or other third party products. ADMT guide over here cc974332(v=ws.10)

There is a good thread on the Domain rename. internal-domain-rename.html
