I have tried several times to create a VM in the Azure DevTest lab which then adds itself to the domain using an artifact. I have the correct user account and password to join the domain, but I keep getting this message. I would love any ideas on how to fix it.

I assume you are selecting from Overview > +Add > [some VM from the list]
Do you have other resources in your lab or this is the first one?

Do you have an AD domain in your lab to join to?
If you're trying to follow the steps in a specific lab example please share the link and I'll try to replicate your steps.
So taking a step back, can your lab vm ping and use net view commands to verify it can see the domain controller?
what about logging into the windows VM and manually joining to the domain?
if that works then I'd be convinced it's the artifact.
Understood. I wonder if anything showed up in the Event Viewer that would provide more details into your authentication error?
Regardless it would seem that artifact was created for a different environment or it may also be deprecated like some of the other artifacts.
Since those are maintained in GitHub it would be worth submitting a bug request over there.

The VM is Windows 10 Enterprise Cloud PC, version 21H2 + Microsoft 365 Apps.
This is the first resource, as I want to make sure that I can make this one work with the artifacts before I create multiple development environments.

I can create the VM, I can't use the Join Active Directory (AD) domain artifact to join the domain.
It's not in the lab itself, but this is on the same network segment where that is set up currently.
Yes, I am able to ping the domain controller.
I've done that before. It works fine to join it that way. I was just trying to remove a manual process from my users.
