Windows Mobile 6 is officially announced

Some of the key features

  • SQL Server Compact Edition and .NET Compact Framework 2.0 built-in ROM for all devices
  • Open and edit Office documents in Smartphone (now called Standard edition, Pocket PC beceomes Professional Edition)
  • Ability to view (and reply using) rich HTML email (looks great!)
  • Keyboard shortcuts
  • Improved internet experience in IE
  • Ability to open files stores in a Sharepoint folder insider the firewall with no need to VPN, using Exchange credentials
  • Rights management for email (IRM) and email attcahments
  • Smart calendar bar "calendar ribbon"
  • Enhanced security including storage card encryption and wipe
  • Improved Windows Live experience
  • And many, many more?

Now, the two questions that everyone would ask: Will I be able to upgrade my phone? What new phones will come with Windows Mobile 6?

Announcements must come from device manufacturers and operators. Technically most phones can be upgraded, but it requires a significant investment from the operator and the device manufacturer in terms of engineering and testing. However, it has been announced that there will be an upgrade for the T-Mobile Dash .

The Toshiba G900 will Rock! I found this on Engadget - https://www.engadgetmobile.com/2007/02/11/toshibas-g900-qwerty-hsdpa-tytn-killer/ take a look at the specs - especially 800x480 display!!!  Then there is this phone from LG https://www.engadgetmobile.com/2007/02/11/lg-finally-has-two-windows-mobile-devices-slated/ that looks like an iPhone (just smarter).
