We listen: Windows 8.1

After many months of rumors now we got the official word about the upcoming update of Windows 8.

Windows 8.1 is the result of the hard work of our engineers after getting your feedback of the first few months of enjoying Windows 8.

I can't wait to start enjoying the new polish coat of this amazing OS and see how Microsoft, as a pioneer company, starts rolling frequent updates to keep Windows fresh and in line with the needs of millions of users around the world.

 

Some of the changes that I find more interesting are the new level of personalization, with a seamless flow from the start screen to the desktop. The more powerful search function, displaying results from multiple sources (the web, apps, files, SkyDrive, actions you can take) and, of course, the Start Button. I don't really miss the button, but it is a good sign for many that Microsoft is paying close attention to every comment from our dear users.

    Yeah, um... the start button wasn't the only problem with Windows 8. The start MENU is still gone, and the start screen is built for Fisher Price toddlers who need tiles the size of a thousand mouse cursors. Give me back my start menu. Thankfully there are 3rd party tools that accomplish this. Unfortunately, as the one who approves usage of new operating systems within our company, Windows 8 will never be adopted until it can operate like Windows 7 did. I will not have all my IT employees educating users on how to work their computer, costing the company time of 2 employees per incident, and hundreds upon hundreds of thousands of dollars in lost productivity.

    Thanks for sharing your opinion Ricky. I am really sorry you feel so strongly against WIn8. Can you tell me if it is only the entire start menu/start screen what deters you from checking the rest of the features? or what else do you dislike? And just as a side note, I do think we listen to all opinions, and even when MS as a company makes mistakes we are always pushing ourselves to offer a great experience to all our customers. But some changes will always attract complains and detractors. Just let me know what you have in mind and I will try to direct your complains to the right channels.
