If you are TechEd, North America…
Between Anutthara and myself, we are doing 3 sessions around Testing at TechEd, North America on June 7th to 10th. If you are there, please do attend these sessions and do drop by the Test and Lab Manager stalls to chat.
DEV309 | High Speed, Low Drag Testing with Microsoft Test Manager 2010
Session Type: Breakout Session
Tuesday, June 8 | 9:45 AM - 11:00 AM | Rm 261
Speaker(s): Anutthara Bharadwaj
Level: 300 - Advanced
Testers are always under time pressure to do more in less time, to do a better job, to make sure the developers did not screw up the quality of the app. In this session we use Microsoft Test Manager 2010 and other testing tools in Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 to demonstrate how to deliver bugs that get fixed the first time, every time; how to speed manual testing by fast-forwarding through your application; how to prevent regressions by converting manual tests to Coded UI tests; and, how to identify the source and impact of changes even when developers “forget” to mention them.
DPR05-INT | Developers Are from Mars, Testers Are from Venus
Session Type: Interactive Session
Monday, June 7 | 2:45 PM - 4:00 PM | Rm 349
Speaker(s): Anutthara Bharadwaj, Gautam Goenka
Level: 200 - Intermediate
Testers perceive developers as cowboys interested in building cool features using the latest technologies and solving the hardest problems which, incidentally, might solve a customer problem. Developers think that testers prevent cool features from release by wasting time running and re-running arbitrary sets of tests and filing often useless bugs. Too often developers and testers work against each other which reduces application quality and ultimately results in a poor product. During development of Microsoft Visual Studio 2010, we took a very different approach, eliminating the walls between test and development and building a real partnership on behalf of our customers. In this session, we discuss the successes and failures of our approach, its impact on our products, and how we will try to improve the approach in the future.
DEV07-INT | Right-Sized Developer Test Automation
Session Type: Interactive Session
Thursday, June 10 | 1:30 PM - 2:45 PM | Rm 348
Speaker(s): Gautam Goenka
Level: 300 - Advanced
There are plenty of studies that clearly indicate that test automation is a great defense mechanism against side effects of changes and “application rot”, but developers writing tests in isolation, leads to the wrong tests being chosen, the re-implementation of the same test as the QA already runs, fragile tests, etc. Come chat about how to focus these efforts on producing repeatable, high quality builds validated by developer test automation developed in partnership with the QA org.
