Just a minute Doc, I just got an IM…

Last Wednesday Amanda, my wife, visited her doctor for a check-up. She's just over 8 months pregnant with our third boy. The doctor was worried about her having the baby early so they checked her into the hospital (Evergreen in Kirkland, WA) overnight. We don't have any family located nearby, so I had the joy of watching our kids. [:)]

When we were visiting Amanda in the hospital later that day I took her laptop with the hope that they might have wireless connectivity. Sure enough, they have an open access point and they don't even charge anything for it!

Wireless connectivity in a hospital is awesome! Amanda was able to IM me throughout the night to update me on her status, send emails to friends/family, and book travel for her Mom to fly in and relieve me from my full-time child care duty. As for Amanda, she's back home on bed rest and enjoying connectivity from the couch. I sure the doctors and nurses love the distraction though.
