Slipstreaming to Windows SDK Beta 2

I thought you might find it interesting to read where we are with Setup in our Beta 2 release of the Windows SDK.

Code complete is Wednesday, March 22nd. The Setup team met today re priorities and resources. Here is the status of setup issues as we get to code complete:

Open items completed on 3/22:

  • Bug 11288: Need to add units for the size of installed content
  • Bug 11629: SDKSetup: On the "Begin Installation" screen, "Cancel" is the default focus rather than "Next"
  • Setup hardening work:
    • Out of disk space error
    • Minimum version of msi.dll and msiexec.exe on the user's machine
    • If a CAB is not downloaded due to network problems, user gets the standard OK | Cancel | Retry choices
    • Default logging is more verbose
    • Better MSI callback
    • Setup runs faster - the controls move quicker
    • Small UI changes to progress bars and the content install window.
  • OS headers and libs to the Install Options screen and BTLFs
    • Still some back-end work to do on this, so there may be some iterations for daily builds for a few days
  • Improvements to the behavior of the setup when the user clicks 'cancel'
  • Build.resx during build

Open items to be complete by EOD Wed 3/23:

  • Feature sizes added to the setup screens
    • Bug 10683: Win Vista- Setup- No Disk Space Requirements listed for any feature
  • Bug 11744: Windows SDK: SDKSetup.exe: Intercept and predictably handle MSI reboot request messages during installer sessions
  • Bug 11770: VCIntegrate: Enable the shortcuts for VCIntegrate in the start menu under SDK folder
  • Bug 11403: Mitigate cases where WinVerifyTrust fails CRC
  • Bug 11060: WORK ITEM: Vista SDK Setup Receiving Dialog Boxes for installing MSIs
  • Bug 10708: Windows SDK: first dialog of sdksetup.exe has registered mark used inconsistanly and it is not superscript.

Bugs that will be worked on later this week:

  • Fixes to the install options screen
    • Bug 11108: Win Vista SDK Setup- Deselecting top menu item nodes doesn't deselect sub menu item nodes
    • Bug 11164: Win Vista SDK- selecting a subnode doesn't select the top node
    • Bug 11229: Deselecting Installation Option takes two clicks
  • Bug 11241: Windows SDK: Setup: unattended install option -x does not work with setup.exe and cause watson error in sdksetup.exe
  • Bug 11377: Cancelling setup does not remove all the bits

We will triage the remaining bugs next week.
