How to make sure Office 365 Users get MOP in their preferred language.

NOTE : This Article is only useful if you are using Directory Synchonization to sync. users from your local AD to cloud.

When user access Microsoft Online Portal it is displayed in English (unless they have made changes in their IE options).

Well now this can be controlled by an Administratorand he can make sure that all users get MOP site in their preferred language without the end user having to change language option in this browser. This is possible due to the Active Directory attribute called "preferredLanguage"  is configured to <not set> which means English. This value can only be changed in the local onpremise AD and not in cloud.

Below are the steps using which you can achieve it.

Step1 : Launch Active Directory Users and Computers (ADUC)

Step2 : Click the View à Advanced Features option .

Step 3: Select the user for whom you need to set their preferred language. Right click on the user and go to the Properties of the user.

Step5: In the User Properties Dialog box, choose attribute Editor and in the list of attributes, look for preferredLanguage attribute.

Step6: By default is shows as <not set> which means its English.

Step7: Once the attribute it selected, click on edit button and then enter the value. Note – This setting uses the two-letter string value. Look into this site for the language values:https://sharpertutorials.com/list-of-culture-codes/

Step8: Click OK. Login to DirSync machine, run the dirsync. wizard.

When the user logs in next time, he/she will see the MOP site in their preferred language. End users can still override this by IE settings.
