Save the Date: Visual Studio 2015 RTM on July 20th
Today, I’m happy to share that the final releases of Visual Studio 2015 and .NET Framework 4.6 will be available for download on July 20th.
Visual Studio 2015 is a big release. We are opening up Visual Studio to developers targeting new platforms – from cross-platform mobile development targeting iOS, Android and Windows, to game development targeting Unity, Unreal, Cocos and more. At the same time, Visual Studio 2015 redefines developer productivity with proactive diagnostics tooling and the new Roslyn language services for C# and VB. And together, Visual Studio 2015, Team Foundation Server 2015 and Visual Studio Online help teams to embrace DevOps with great agile backlog management, Azure cloud tooling, hosted continuous integration, and Application Insights across all the components of your application.
To celebrate the release, we invite you to join us online on July 20th to learn about the new features and technologies. You will be able to engage in live, interactive Q&A sessions with the engineering team, as well as deep-dive into technical details covered in over 60 on-demand video sessions.

@Eivind Microsoft recently open sourced MSBuild. Is that what you are thinking of? Since it is open source, they have been porting it to Linux and OS X, for use with .net Core.Anonymous

Will this version be able to click-once publish to SQL Server 2014 express / localDB or any other new options? Will this version allow having a solution with an existing Microsoft Reporting project? @Nico I do not think there will be a Power Tools 2015 on RTM, see also information in the thread at social.msdn.microsoft.com/.../is-there-a-power-tools-install-for-2015 @DS19 I can't find a link at the moment, but I believe the VS2015 BI Project templates will be build as part of SQL2016 (and then are also able to down-target downto SQL2012 SSIS). As part of that work a 'refresh' of the VS2013BI tools supporting SQL2012 would be done I believe (but again, I can't find a blog/forum post.. I believe it might have been mentioned in a podcast or maybe an Ignite video). So no BI Project templates on RTM.Anonymous

@Vincent - I work on the EF team here at Microsoft. We don't have any public dates just yet. EF7 will have a go-live production ready release at the same time as ASP.NET 5. The ASP.NET 5 team is working on making a schedule public at the moment. Both EF7 and ASP.NET 5 will still be pre-release in Visual Studio 2015 RTM.Anonymous

The Greatest productivity improvement would be if you finally, after several years, fixed this issue! stackoverflow.com/.../missing-intellisence-data-tip-for-a-datarow-item-in-vs-2012-and-beyond That single problem has taken my development back to the stone ages. What used to be a simple hover over some code to get the underlying value of the element has now turned into scrolling through the array, pinning and unpinning, and trying to remember which column name represents which array element number. Hi Somasegar I have been a full MSDN subscriber for over 15 years and of course have VS 2013. However I have been using VS 2015 since it came out working on Xamarin Cross-Platform and contributing to MvvMCross on GitHub. When I try to test an Android App, the Android Emulator pops up a warning that it will refuse to work in about 5 hours from now. The Preview did the same thing but at that time the RC was ready. So now it looks like it is going to die with 9 days to go before the RTM download is up. Perhaps you could email me with instructions on how to work around this problem.Anonymous

Hi, I would really love to buy an upgrade to Visual Studio 2015 Professional (without MSDN), but nearly TWO MONTHS after RTM, it's still not possible. Why don't you sell your software? Doesn't the Developer Devision of Microsoft need to generate revenue? The full version of Visual Studio 2015 Professional (without MSDN) has finally reached the stores at the beginning of September - 6 weeks after RTM. The upgrade from VS 2013 Professional to 2015 Professional (both without MSDN) is still missing. The contact persons at the Microsoft Online Store have no clue why it's missing or when it will be available. No other store is offering upgrade packages. When VS 2013 was released in November 13, it was possible to buy the software immediatly after RTM. Why not this time? Or do you expect that owners of VS 2013 have to buy the full version of VS 2015 instead of an upgrade?
