IT professionals can now download Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1 (SP1) Beta through the TechNet Evaluation Center. This combined service pack includes changes to both Windows platforms. The beta release is not available to home users.

Forrester Consulting conducted a commissioned study on behalf of Microsoft titled, "The Total Economic Impact of Windows Server 2008 R2" that examined the total economic impact and potential return on investment (ROI) enterprises may realize by deploying Windows Server 2008 R2. After conducting interviews with nine Microsoft customers, Forrester Consulting found that these companies were able to achieve: management savings for their IT team; benefits from virtualization such as hardware, real estate, and power cost savings; user productivity savings; and other cost savings through DirectAccess and BranchCache technologies. In this webcast, we describe the TEI methodology, explaining the model's assumptions and risk adjustments, and review findings regarding the economic impact of Window Server 2008 R2. Presenter: Michelle Bishop, Consultant, Forrester Consulting Michelle Bishop is a consultant with Forrester's Total Economic Impact (TEI) consulting practice. The TEI methodology focuses on measuring and communicating the value of IT and business decisions and solutions and providing a return-on-investment (ROI) business case based on the costs, benefits, risks, and flexibility of investments.
