End of Support for SQL Server 2005 SP2. Buckle up for SP3

So as the year 2010 settles in, we have approached to an end of support for SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 2 (SP2).

What does this means?

The usual Product Support Lifecycle page on Microsoft confirms a product support ends 12 months after the next service pack releases or at the end of the product's support lifecycle, whichever comes first. Visit the page for more information on specified products: https://support.microsoft.com/lifecycle/#ServicePackSupport

How does this impacts me?

Read “Microsoft Support Lifecycle (MSL) Policy FAQ” for understanding product supportability.

What I need to do next?

Consider immediately upgrading SQL Server 2005 SP2 to:
a. SQL 2005 SP3 (Download link)
Or
b. SQL 2008 SP1 (Download link)
