Business value

Triggers allow you to create fully autonomous agents that can react to an event such as a table update, a new document, or a newly received email rather than relying on end-user input. This activity feature allows you to track the agent's behavior, which actions were called, and why. This means that you can create agents that work in the background automating business processes for themselves or their team.

Feature details

Today, agents in Microsoft Copilot Studio are triggered by user input. An end user will ask a question or send a message and the copilot will reason over a series maker defined topics and actions to respond appropriately to the end user.

By adding automated triggers to Copilot Studio, you can cause an agent to run independently of end-user input. The agent will respond to events such as an email arriving, a document being created, or a table row being updated, and then follow its user-defined instructions.

We are also adding an activity tab to the agents in Microsoft Copilot Studio. The purpose of this activity tab is to allow the agent maker to track each historical interaction with their agent. Any time a topic or action gets triggered this will be recorded as a conversation within the activity tab. This will enable the maker to drill into the interaction, and review each action that was called and why the action was called. Note that for this first version of activity, only interactions with the maker will be recorded.
