Azure Databricks integrates with Microsoft Fabric in two ways. Both result in Unity Catalog tables being in Fabric as a read-only mirrored catalog with no data movement. The choice is mostly about which team drives the integration.
Choose an integration method
| Integration method | Who initiates | What gets shared | Release status |
|---|---|---|---|
| Publish a Unity Catalog catalog to Microsoft Fabric | An Azure Databricks catalog admin runs Catalog > Share > Publish to OneLake on Azure Databricks. | The full catalog. | Beta |
| Use Microsoft Fabric to read data that is registered in Unity Catalog | A Fabric workspace administrator selects + New > Mirrored Azure Databricks catalog in the Fabric portal. | Selected schemas and tables, with optional auto-sync of new ones. | Generally Available |
