Hi,

As per support life cycle for SQL Server I found there are mainly two kind of support. One is 'Mainstream Support' & another is 'Extended Support'. The 'Mainstream Support' ends first for any version then 'Extended Support' life cycle remain for few years and then it ends also.

I want to know for any version of SQL Server what is the difference between these two kind of support and if any company has 'Mainstream Support' then will it be eligible for 'Extended Support' automatically or there is any additional clause to get 'Extended Support'?

Hi @Kazi Ariful Haq ,

Quote from this doc.: difference-mainstream-extended-support

Mainstream Support:All security updates, new feature developments, and complimentary support are provided during Mainstream Support.

Extended Support: During the extended support, Microsoft still provides all security updates. However, unlike mainstream support, product design change or new feature addition requests are not accepted and complimentary support is not provided.

You can also search the product lifecycle by this link: Search product lifecycle

...and if any company has 'Mainstream Support' then will it be eligible for 'Extended Support' automatically or there is any additional clause to get 'Extended Support'?

Yes. It will be eligible for Extended Support automatically. However, the details are determined by the type of support and the product you selected.

You can consult MS product support team, they are familiar about this:
Please call 1-800-426-9400, Monday through Friday, 6:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. (Pacific Time) to speak directly to a Microsoft licensing specialist. For international customers, please use the https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/licensing/worldwide to find contact information in your locations. Or you can go to https://www.microsoft.com/Licensing/servicecenter/default.aspx Please choose region/language and choose to call or have web. People there will help you more effectively.

Mia

For extended support there will no longer be optional, non-security releases
