Can ASR and Azure Migrate Coexist?

Is it possible to have ASR enabled on an on-prem system AND migrate it to Azure at the same time?  Ex. Imagine a company is running VMware, and they have ASR (on-prem to Azure) enabled to DR protect some of their VMs.  Can you still migrate the VMs while ASR is in place, or would you need to stop ASR in order to do the migration?

You'd need to stop ASR. They both are using the same technology under the covers - which would result in conflicts. It's one or the other.

@Josue Del Valle Thank you for reaching out to us on Microsoft Q&A platform. In Azure, there are potential risks associated with any migration process, but with proper planning and execution, these risks can be mitigated. One common risk is data loss or corruption during the migration process. To address this, it's crucial to thoroughly test the migration process in a non-production environment and ensure that proper backups are in place before initiating the migration.

Another risk is downtime or disruption to services during the migration. This can be minimized by carefully scheduling the migration during off-peak hours and implementing strategies such as VM snapshots or using Azure's availability features to maintain service continuity.

Security risks are also a concern, especially when transferring data between on-premises systems and Azure. It's essential to follow Azure's security best practices, such as encrypting data in transit and at rest, implementing access controls, and monitoring for any suspicious activity during the migration process.

Lastly, there may be financial risks associated with Azure migration, such as unexpected costs or budget overruns. It's important to carefully estimate the cost of the migration, including any additional Azure resources or services required, and to closely monitor usage to avoid any unexpected charges.

By identifying and addressing these potential risks upfront, organizations can ensure a smooth and successful migration to Azure while minimizing any potential disruptions or issues.
