PowerPoint - Use Destination Theme does not work when copying a pasted content

I am trying to copy content (text) from older PowerPoint presentation (2020) to another presentation (2021 version of Powerppint). The new ppt has a set style, Master style views were checked and are set correctly.

When copying, in Paste options I choose Use Destination Theme and yet the copied text stays according to the old format (so in fact it does not copy according to destination theme at all).

Is there a way to override this? Or does every copied text need to ne manually adjusted to the destination theme (font) - which would be very annoying.

    Hi @NKU

This issue may be related to layouts in old sliders. As far as I know, it does not prevent slide layouts being copied in.

"If a user pastes in a legacy slide that needs a deleted layout, the paste will bring that layout into the host presentation. But now the layout is not formatted with your new design. Instead, it brings in the old formatting of the legacy presentation."

For more, please refer to John Korchok's replies in: https://www.brandwares.com/bestpractices/2018/11/legacy-slides-brandwares-best-practices/

Please go to Home tab > Slides group > Layout, select the correct one for the pasted sliders. Or you may back up old presentations, maintain all default layouts, then paste to new presentation and use Destination Theme.

    Thank you for the answer!

I tried your tip but did not yet manage to make it work. I have an issue with copying also just certain elements - a text box, for example, as written above, not only the whole slides. So the font style does not get copied even though I choose Use Destination Theme, it stays as in the previous ppt.

The slide header is according to the new style, so some part of the copied content adopts the destination theme, but part (mainly the text font) does not and that is an issue, if everything needs to be changed manually.
