There is not option to move the taskbar to left, right or top of the screen in Windows 11!

The alignment setting moves the taskbar to the left of the bottom of the screen. However, what I (and it seems the original poster) want is to move it to the side of the screen, vertically, as we could in previous versions.

Just moved to Windows 11 and surprise, I can't have it the way I want.
With screens that are 16:9 (if not 100:1) it consumes much more pixels to have the taskbar down than on the side.
I will use the autohide option but this is not practical.
Once again, it was better before.
I do not get it why moving taskbar to the right has been disabled. It is so inconvenient and frustrating. You are simplifying everything too much it makes your user experience worse instead of better. For example new Outlook is barely usable, it misses so many options, I had to switch back to old one to be able to use full functionality.

Also finding this frustrating - my brain doesn't work to have the task bar at the bottom - it clutters the vertical space. Why has this option been removed - less personalisation instead of more.

This is so incredibly frustrating! What a dumb thing to get rid of. Why fix what's not broken? I relied on the task bar being vertical on the left side of my screen (NOT aligned on the left side of the bottom) for my work and now it's making my job much more difficult. Do better, Microsoft.

Right on! So many times the taskbar won't hide and blocks the key info needed, especially in Excel!!

it always a few years for Microsoft to realize their mistakes and fix it, like taskbar.

If you're unable to find options, consider updating your system or resetting your taskbar.
Here are the steps to reset your taskbar:
a. Right-click on an empty space on the Taskbar.
b. Go to "Taskbar settings."
c. Scroll down and click on "Reset."
Confirm the action to reset the Taskbar settings.

This is not what people are asking for in this thread. We want to move the entire taskbar to vertical on the right (or left) of screen. You know, standard windows task bar behavior for more than a decade.
Why?
Because on a widescreen display, a horizontal bottom taskbar utilizes previous vertical display space compared to using almost half the amount of screen real-estate in an orientation where you won't miss it.
