We have a sharepoint site that we use for document repository, and we utilize metadata tagging, rather than folders. It has always worked for me to drop and drag files into parent and subtask hierarchy structures, and the system would auto-tag the files after dropping and dragging. Recently, this feature stopped working and if I drag and drop a file into a subfolder, it just gets filed under "unassigned" now. the user interface recently changed as well so I'm assuming there was an update and this has resulted in the auto-tagging feature no longer working for me. Thanks for any help!

    Hi @Eberhart, Paul ,

I have done a lot of research, and as I said before, this may be a random event, and I can't reproduce it, so there is currently no way to determine the specific cause of the problem, and more in-depth inspection may be required. I understand your feelings, but due to the limited forum permissions, in order to solve your problem faster and better, we recommend that you contact Microsoft directly.

The support team over there has the correct escalation channel, they can involve more resource and investigate the behavior from back end as fast as possible. They also can check the behavior on your end remotely. For reference: Get support - Microsoft 365 admin | Microsoft Docs.

    Good day!

    Hi @Eberhart, Paul ,

    Welcome to Q&A forum!

I've checked and there are currently no updates on this. And according to my test, it works fine, just as you described.

This should be a random issue, don't worry, let's do some troubleshooting together:

    1. Check Browser Compatibility: Ensure you're using a supported browser like Microsoft Edge, Chrome, Firefox, or Safari. Sometimes, browser updates or settings can affect functionality.
    2. Clear Cache and Cookies: Clearing your browser's cache and cookies can resolve unexpected behavior caused by outdated or corrupted data.
    3. Use Incognito Mode: Try accessing SharePoint Online in an incognito or private browsing window. This can help determine if browser extensions or settings are interfering with the feature.
    4. Verify Permissions: Ensure you have the necessary permissions to tag files in the document library. Sometimes, permission changes can affect how features work.

    Hope these can help.
