Downloading Teams Chat

I want to download the chat from a meeting in a readable format and have not found a good way to do so. It is crazy to think that Teams wouldn't be able to support this very basic function (copying and pasting in to a .txt file is not reasonable). Any functional suggestions are appreciated, thank you!

    Hi @EDR

To export a full transcript of a Microsoft Teams meeting, you can follow these steps:

Record a meeting: At the start of a meeting, click the More Actions button (usually a three-dot icon) in the meeting control bar, and then select Start Recording. Make sure you have permission to record the meeting.

End a meeting and save the recording: After the meeting, the recording is automatically saved to your OneDrive or SharePoint. You can find the recording in the Chat or Meeting tab in Teams.

    Export a meeting transcript:

    • Meeting recording: Find the recording in Teams, right-click and select Download to save it to your local device.
    • Meeting chat transcript: Open the meeting chat, click the More Options button in the upper-right corner, and then select Export Chat or Download Chat Transcript.
    • Meeting notes: If you used the meeting notes feature in the meeting, you can export the notes from OneNote or Teams after the meeting.
    • Use the meeting review feature: If you are using Teams Premium, you can use the smart meeting review feature to view and export the key points of the meeting, generated tasks, and more.

Meeting recordings downloaded from Microsoft Teams are usually in .mp4 format, and meeting chat records are usually saved in .txt or .html format. If you need files in other formats, you may need to convert them yourself.

If you would like this feature to be added, please submit feedback in Microsoft Feedback. Many features of our current products are designed and upgraded based on customers’ feedback. With requirements like this increase, the problem may well be released in the future.

Thanks for your understanding and support.
