How to fix error: "the specified server cannot perform the requested operation" on SMB share

Hello,

since updating to Windows 11 24H2, I'm unable to browser a specific NAS.

The connection is established correctly, confirmed by "net use" and can also be mapped using "Map Network Drive" feature.

However when trying to browse and folder on the storage I get the error: "the specified server cannot perform the requested operation"

The storage is using SMBv2 and authentication.

I can access it from other machines without Win11 24H2 without any problem (Other Win11, Win10, Mac OSX)

Already tried to change the RequireSecuritySignature to false, and also enabling the insecure guest logons and disabling the digitally sign communications option, which were suggest for similar issues but without any change in the behavior.

Any help would be appreciated in solving or troubleshooting this.

Thank you in advance

    Hello,

I recommend checking the SMB service on your client (name: workstation, server). If you've already completed all the suggested steps, consider capturing network logs using tools like Wireshark or Network Monitor to identify any noteworthy activity.

    Hello,

I analysed the wireshark but can't figure out what is causing the failure.

Below the screenshot from the non-working connection (from Win11 24H2):

Working connection (from Win Server 2022 21H2):

Can you help shed some light on this?

Same issue, no resolution… I am on 25H2…..After chasing the rabbit, ended in Wonderland….Wonder if Microsoft will land on this issue, pickup and resolve soon? As noted above apparent issue emerged on 24H2

    Symptom

    • Able to recognize NAS on network
    • Able to Map as a network drive
    • Able to access NAS apps and files using Browser or Command prompt
    • Not able to discover/look into drive on Windows explorer (Responds with this error)

Scope: Works on older versions (7, 10, 11). Some PCs sill in use on LAN. Win 11 version 24H2 fails

Troubleshooting: Amongst many other things, tried SMB version variations, Connecting without Hello PIN, flushing DNS cache, checking start up settings, restarting a million times.

At a loss and handicapped without access to NAS from this new windows platform

    Any ideas?
