AutoML "View Explanations" No Longer Showing Charts in Azure Machine Learning Studio

Hi all,

I've been using Azure Machine Learning Service for several years without issue. However, starting this past Monday, I’m no longer able to access the explainability charts for AutoML models through the GUI.

When I click "View Explanations", it redirects me to a page, but no charts are displayed—just a blank or limited view without the visualizations I used to see.

Has the location of these charts changed recently, or could this be a bug in AMLS? Any guidance or confirmation from others experiencing the same issue would be appreciated.

It's quite odd. Since Monday, I haven't been able to find any of the explainability charts in the GUI, and these are so important since it allows us to know which variables are important.

It might be either network block or cookie/cache issue too.

Could you please test below steps and let us know.

Please try clearing your browser cache and cookies or trying to access the studio from an incognito window or a different browser.

Take a network trace to see if there is a network block on Azure ML urls and do needed whitelisting on Azure or org firewall. Attached relevant documentation on virtual network for AI/ML containing all host urls.

Ensure that your Azure subscription and workspace are not hitting any quotas, you can check it from activity logs .

Checking the logs for any errors by navigating to the "Jobs" section in Azure ML Studio and inspecting the logs of the specific AutoML run and explanation child jobs from output+logs. Attached troubleshoot guide for reference.

Please try loading model explanations using the Azure ML SDK with the enable_model_explainability=True in model forecasting ensuring your dataset and model sizes are within reasonable limits.

Here is Sample code and relevant documentation for reference.

# Create the AutoML forecasting job with the related factory-function. Force the target column, to be integer type (To be added in phase 2) forecasting_job = automl.forecasting( experiment_name=exp_name, training_data=my_training_data_input, target_column_name=target_column_name, primary_metric="NormalizedRootMeanSquaredError", n_cross_validations="auto", enable_model_explainability=True, )

It's East US and this didn't help. The logs are fine. The explanation ran just fine. It's just that the GUI is not accessible. It's not showing up as an option.

Got updates from product team, this feature was officially depreciated since March 15th,
leading to the removal of the model explanations tab.

So, please transition to the Responsible AI Dashboard, here is the announcement made publicly 18 months ago following the Azure deprecation guidelines for preview features.

It does not answer the question, which is about the model explanation (feature importance, etc...), and your answer is about showing metrics in a dashboard view. So it is not related.

Here are screenshots. The model has an explanation. But there is no tab to view them even though the explanation has already been run! It's missing. The tab should be on the same row as "Overview Model Metrics Responsible (AI). What is going on?

Apparently the explanations tab does not exist anymore. It is replaced by the Responsible AI now.

I tried to use it, BUT it seems it is not compatible with AutoML Jobs...

So for now no solution through the studio, maybe through the SDK...?

As of now there is no workaround for this feature, but what you can try is extracting information for the explanation runs from Outputs and Logs tab.
