Always On VPN & Sky Broadband

We have just implemented Always On. It works great apart from with Sky Broadband. It does not connect when using Sky. You can tether your phone and connect to the VPN fine, then switch the Sky broadband and the VPN carries on working fine. But that initial connect doesn't seem to work. To our knowledge every other ISP works fine.

Obviously Sky have said its not them and they don't block anything. But I'm wondering if anyone else has this issue? Are sky stopping fragmented packets perhaps? Or does anyone have Always On and it does work with Sky Broadband?

Any help or advice would be great as I'm out of ideas.

    @TomasArrandale-8177Hi,

    Thank you for posting in Q&A!

    According to my research, there're many different kinds of VPN users reporting their VPN connection would fail when using SKY Broadband.

    But since we don't have the environment to test, so I can merely provide some general suggestions based on my research:

    1.Often system set-up such as firewalls or anti-virus can interfere with VPN services. Firstly I would suggest you to temporarily disable the system set-up & third-party firewall.

    2.The Sky service is not actually blocking any VPN connections. One of the most common issues suffered by Sky Broadband connections when using a VPN is caused by Sky's own filtering service called Sky Broadband Shield.
    You can turn this off by visiting https://broadbandshield.sky.com/ and switching the service to off.

    Hope you have a nice day : )
    Gloria

    Hi Gloria
    We have already tried disabling sky broadband shield. We know there is no local firewall or antivirus affecting connect as we can successfully connect the device on other ISPs such as Virgin and BT..

    Hi, Its sometimes the Shield but not always. We have 4 users that are having issues with SKY (and growing) with our chosen VPN, and we have exhausted all avenues at our end and even users end with settings and router etc I have trawled threads reading so called experts and 'superusers' 🤦‍♂️ on sky threads and their pointless solutions. Its an issue with SKY. We have ZERO problems with other ISPs and so the only solution is it is SKY.
