Why do I receive an 8 digit code (count down code) instead of the 2 digit number code when attempting to sign in

Receiving an 8-digit countdown code instead of a 2-digit number usually means your account is set up to use verification codes instead of push notifications, or the app time is not synced correctly. The 8-digit code is more common with personal Microsoft accounts, while 2-digit number matching is typically used for work or school account sign-ins.

Possible Reasons for the 8-Digit Code:

Your account is set up to use verification codes instead of push notifications.

Your phone’s date and time may be out of sync.

The account may not be set up correctly in the app.

For personal Microsoft accounts, this is normal.

To Get 2-Digit Matching Back:

Set your phone’s date and time to Automatic.

Turn on notifications for Microsoft Authenticator. (Make sure "Do Not Disturb" is off)

Remove and re-add your account in the app by scanning a new QR code..

Try using mobile data instead of Wi-Fi.
