WebView2 Manager

Question

I've been looking at my RAM Usage and I always notice that WebView2 Manager is taking up a noticeable amount. While some of the processes within are in efficiency mode, I am wondering if I should remove this or end task? I've heard that WebView2 helps support Microsoft Teams and Microsoft Outlook but I use neither as apps. Should I remove?

WebView2 Manager is a standard Windows component that allows apps and certain Windows features to display web-based content. Even if you do not actively use Teams or Outlook, other applications may still rely on it in the background. Multiple WebView2 processes and some memory usage in Task Manager are generally expected.

Rather than removing it, you can check which application is using the most resources:

1. Open Task Manager and expand WebView2 Manager.
2. Right-click a WebView2 process and select "Go to details".
3. Note which application is associated with the process and close or update that application if it is using excessive memory.

In general, uninstalling or ending WebView2 processes permanently is not recommended because some applications and Windows features may not function as expected afterward.

WebView 2 is not only used for Microsoft Teams and Microsoft Outlook, it is a process in Windows used by many built-in apps as well as 3rd party apps you install to generate the user interface of the apps, it will use a good amount of RAM when apps are open, that is normal, you should not try to remove WebView 2 because that may cause many apps on your PC to stop functioning correctly
