Intune Migration

Hi Techies,

I am in a process to migrate my windows 10 clients from legacy to modern intune and just wanted to be sure on after the migration to modern intune, will all policies and application remains intact as i dont have any policy configured currently in Modern intune

Simply removing the Intune client agent doesn't necessarily remove policies and definitely won't remove applications -- I don't thinkwe've defined what will and won't remain policy wise. These policies and applications of course won't exist in Intune anymore though and so won't be enforced on the devices and there is no migration path either as management is done using a completely different engine built into Windows 10 so you will have to recreate everything necessary per the steps outlined by @CiciWu-MSFT .

Please understand that it is not supported to migrate them with policies and application remains. We have to reenroll them as MDM devices to keep them managed by Intune, which means removing the PC software client and enrolling the device in the MDM channel instead. Basic steps are:

1. Get familiar with device administration at https://devicemanagement.microsoft.com.
2. Recreate your existing Windows 10 policies as MDM policies. Note that many device management policies were migrated several years ago as part of the admin console migration, so double check device management in Azure before you create any policies.
3. Review reporting in Silverlight to find those PC’s that are managed by the PC software client.
4. Decide the right modern enrollment mechanism for your organization. You can review your options here: https://learn.microsoft.com/intune/windows-enrollment-methods.
5. Unenroll devices with the PC software client and re-enroll the device using MDM. We strongly recommend you update to the latest version of Windows 10. As previously announced, Intune ends support for Windows 7 on January 14, 2020.
6. If you do use the Intune Storage Add-On licensing, note that it is not needed when you use the MDM channel for managing your PC’s with Intune. Ensure apps are loaded using any of the mechanisms described here: https://learn.microsoft.com/intune/apps/apps-add.
