When I open the IE browser,

Windows server will send data to those IP as follows:

184.26.245.154
117.18.232.200
204.79.197.200

I think this ip data sending is for collecting data by Microsoft.

Is it possible to stop those IP sending?

Thank you.

    Hi Xian,

I am sorry to tell you that currently in Microsoft Q&A we only support English, you may reply us in English and we can only communicate in English at the moment. If you need Chinese language support, please post on TechNet forum in Chinese Language:

I have discussed with my colleague who is more familiar with IE (I am not an expert in IE, we have a dedicated IE forum),we all think
this may involve the underlying working principle of IE and there is no build-in way could stop it.

In addition, regarding to IE related question, I would suggest you refer to experts from the IE forum to get professional support. You might get better answers from IE experts:

    Hope this can help you.

You can do a reverse lookup on these IP addresses with MXtoolbox. If possible I would block with a network or Windows host based firewall.

    184.26.245.154 - a184-26-245-154.deploy.static.akamaitechnologies.com
117.18.232.200 - Does not have a PTR record
    204.79.197.200 - a-0001.a-msedge.net

    Hi ,

Did you mean those traffic are only occurred when you browse IE ? Did you open any websites?

You can check if those traffic is send by IE process with resource monitor or network monitor.

Will those packet still be sent even you did not open any website?

The IP of 204.79.197.200 is owned by Microsoft, all the lookups report it as being safe.

For the other two IP sending, I am not sure about their role(I have searched a lot and I did not found relevant information). Did you open any related websites with IE at that time?

If you are really worried about these two IP addresses, you can consider blocking them from the firewall level.

    Hi ,

    >>Is it possible to stop sending data to 204.79.197.200 by changing windows os setting?

As I said before, IE might automatically send data to Microsoft and this function cannot be turned off. So we might cannot stop this traffic sending.

For other two IP address, if it belongs to CDN server as you said, based on my research, Akamai is heavily used by Microsoft to host updates and upgrades.

You might configure the following policies to stop those traffic:

    20155-image.png

If the above policies are enabled, but IE still send such traffic. I would think this is necessary traffic and we could just ignore it. This might involve underlying working principle of IE, it is hard to explain from Q&A platform support level.

Here is a similar thread discussed before, you could have a look:

    https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/0da75b5c-f2bc-4c99-8741-1029e08f0a61/windows-10-continuously-downloading-content-akamai-and-cdns?forum=win10itprogeneral

In short, if the above policies did not help, just ignore those traffic. They should be safe and can not be turned off.

If you are really worried about these traffic, just block them from the firewall level.

    Hope this can help you.

    Best Regards,

    Candy
