Connection to Azure SQL Managed instance fails.. sometimes

Hi,

I have put up a managed instance, and everything seems to work fine. I can work with it with SQL Management studio on a VM in a different cloud with no problems. (We have set up a site-to-site VPN). Then out of a sudden, the instance wont react. When I try to reconnect it times out with this error message:

A transport-level error has occurred when receiving results from the server. (provider: TCP Provider, error: 0 - The semaphore timeout period has expired.) (.Net SqlClient Data Provider)
"

There are no IPs beeing blocked in our firewall and everything looks fine.

I really struggle to find out what the issue might be. Any help is appriciated.

Please convey the answers to the below questions before we take this forward:

1) How many times this issue occurs for you?
2) Is there a particular query to which the DB reacts in this way.
3) We are assuming if you have point to Point VPN, you are connecting from On premises to Cloud

We have seen in the past this issue issue happening cause of Network issue or DB unavailability or hardware issue on the On Prem site. For getting to root of the problem we advise you raise a request with the Support to check the telemetry for your resources and help you further. But still get back to us with above answers so we can check this further.

it happens in time intervals. for instance, it could be working fine 07:00 am - 10:00 am, but then suddenly not be working for a few hours.

No, the issue is related to the connection to the instance. I do, however, get the same error when querying from a database on a linked server.
