RDP disconnects every time a Microsoft Access dialog displays on Windows 2016 Server

I connect regularly to a Windows 2016 Server in a EC2 instance at AWS. This is the only RDP connection to the server.

Everything worked perfectly from 2014 until around Jan. 1, 2023. Currently, whever I connect to the WS2016 server and a dialog is displayed when working in MS Access, the connection immediately drops then "Connection attempt 1/5" displays, then it reconnects after around 30 seconds.

This is 100% repeatable:

  • Connect via RDP to Windows Server 2016
  • Open any database in Microsoft Access
  • Perform any task that results in a dialog being displayed, and the connection drops immediately.
  • Example 1: delete a row of a table, and when the "Delete 1 row?" dialog appears, the connection drops.
  • Example 2: Change the design of a table, then close the table and when the dialog "Save Changes?" appears, the connection drops.

The connection never drops until a dialog box is displayed. I can work for 30 minutes without losing connection, but whenever a dialog appears, the connection drops instantly, every time.

I have also seen this happen when other notifications appear and the connection instantly drops, but I don't have a repeatable example there because it happens sporadically. It's 100% repeatable in Access.

Any help would be appreciated!
